Tailors chalk – chemical or vanishing chalk

Tailors chalk – chemical or vanishing chalk: When sewing clothing you use tailors chalk. There are different types, besides the traditional tailors chalk that can be brushed out there is also chalk that dissapears. That is called chemical or vanishing chalk

And we can distinguish between pieces of chalk and chalk pens. On this page we focus on the pieces tailors chalk or vanishing chalk.

Tailors chalk

When you say Tailor, what come to mind? Correct, someone sitting on a table with the sewing tape around their neck and needle and thread in hand. And probably you will also see a piece of tailors chalk!

In tailors chalk the choice has increased. We now sell small boxes with 2 or 10 pieces tailors chalk. And a larger box of 25 is also available and we should not forget the vanishing chalk…

There are many colours of tailors chalk available: ofcourse white and yellow, pink / red, blue and even green. The boxes have different contents. Many boxes are filled with one colour and there are assorted boxes with all colours of white and one extra colour.

Tailors chalk sharpener

When you take a new piece of tailors chalk from the box the edge is nice and sharp. With use it becomes more rounded and therefore the line you draw will get thicker. To make the edge sharper again, use the sharpener. We sell the sharpener with metal blades so you can use it for years to come.

You can place the sharpener on the table and pull the piece of tailors chalk through. The chalk powder that is shaved of is collected, so when done empty it in the dustbin. You can also hang it on the wall above the bin but that will probably not be very handy…

Chemical or vanishing chalk for tailors

Chemical or vanishing chalk is a lot different than normal tailors chalk. The pieces are smaller and feel different. Rough but also smooth. That sounds a bit weird but if you have ever felt one you probably understand.

Vanishing chalk is only available in white en can be removed with the iron. Normal tailors chalk is rubbed away. With chemical chalk the heat of the iron is used to remove it. Vanishing chalk is a little brittle on the edge because they are super thin for super thin markings. To protect your vanishing chalk we sell a special holder. Also great for storing it!
