When making your own bag, try the sturdy but supple decofil and decofil light. The C900 is great for belts and collars but also for bags. And the interlining called S133 a strong and sturdy interfacing specially made for the bottom of the bag. A quick summary of the many possibilities.
Embroidery is a different story. When you are doing machine embroidery you will want to use a temporary interlining. That interfacing can be removed when the embroidery is done. The most well known is stitch and tear. There is also a tear away embroidery fleece that you can iron on: Fuse N Tear. Another type is the Filmoplast H54. It is a tear away embroidery fleece but self adhesive. If your embroidery calls for a water soluble fleece, order solufleece of solufix.
Solufleece is Vilenes water soluble fleece. A multi purpose fleece that works well with machine embroidery too. It’s brother is Solufix. Also water soluble but with an adhesive layer on the back.. Why use water soluble fleece for embroidery? Say you are using a fragile fabric for your embroidery. If you pull on it to hard you can damage the fabric. In that case: Water soluble is the way to go!
Warm clothing is often made with volume fleece or fiberfill. In this range you will find polyester fleece in iron on and sew in and fleeces made from natural raw materials like cotton, soy and wool. Something for everyone!

Stitch and tear is the most well known embroidery fleece. Using it is simple, secure it in the embroidery hoop together with the fabric. The underlay is at the bottom, the fabric on top. When the embroidery is done you tear away the remains of the fleece.
There are a few different types that essentially do the same job. All these you can tear away. Stitch and tear has no coating and so it has to be secured in the hoop. The Fuse N Tear can be ironed on and the Filmoplast H54 has a self adhesive layer. Depending on your fabric and ofcourse your personal preferences you choose one of theese underlays

Solufleece Vilene – a.o. for embroidery
Also used in embroidery: water soluble fleece. It is calle solufleece.
Use Vilene solufleece for all kinds of hobbies and as a temporary sewing aid. When sewing buttonholes in felt or woolfelt a piece of solufleece can make all the difference. Rinse out the solufleece and you have your good looking buttonhole!
Would you like to sew seams with solufleece, try solufleece tape. It is 2,5cm wide and has 25m on the roll. That will cut down on the cutting of all those strips…
Vilene Solufix
Looking for water soluble fleece but self adhesive? Try solufix!
Solufix by Vilene is essentially solufleece but with the self adhesive layer and backing paper.
Buy your solufix at the shop specialised in interlining, tailors hams and other pressing materials.
Vilene interlining for bags – clutch, handbag, backpack etc.
When choosing interfacing for bags like a clutch, handbag, backpack, shopper etc. Your choice will be different than with embroidery. A bag needs more reinforcement and sometimes you will even use volume fleece for sturdiness and thickness.
A great bag interlining is vilene decofil, iron on, easy to cut and you can even turn it inside out when using decofil. There’s a light version called decofil light, that one is about half as heavy as the normal decofil.
The heaviest interfacing in our range is the S133, very suitable for the bags bottom. Also iron on.
Vilene interlining S320 and S520 are close together. In essence the same interlining except S320 is a bit thinner and suppler. S320 can be used in collars when you would like it to stand up. Think of C900 for that too. That one is made specially for belts and collars but also suitable for bags. Looks like H250 but thicker…
Volumefleece by Vilene – thickness and warmth
Vilene volume fleece made from natural raw materials
Vilene volume fleece is available in polyester and natural materials. Our preference is natural materials especially when making garments and boxrugs, babyclothes etc. You would not want your infant to sleep under polyester in case there is a fire.
Wij hebben een katoenen volumevlies, die is 100% katoen en 150cm breed, ongeveer een 1,5cm dik. De soyamix is ook met katoen, 50% en de ander 50% is gemaakt van soya. Voordeel van deze is dat hij heerlijk zacht is, 150cm breed en een milimeter of 4 dik. Wordt gebruikt voor kleding maar ook als katoenen quilt vulling.
Er is ook een mooie wollen volumevlies van Vlieseline, deze tussenvulling bestaat uit twee lagen, de 100% wollen laag die ongeveer 1,5cm dik is en het polyester afdekvlies die bedoeld is om vezelmigratie (een mooi woord voor het door de stof komen van pluizen van de wol) tegen te gaan. Door de twee lagen is de samenstelling 80% wol, 20% polyester. De wollen volumevlies is heerlijk warm en zeer geschikt voor een warme winterjas of lekker dik boxkleed.
Polyester fiberfill volumevlies – in je jas, tas etc.
In polyester volumevlies (ook wel fiberfill of wattine genoemd) hebben we een brandwerende versie die dus wel weer geschikt is voor kleine kinderen. De “gewone” polyester fiberfills zijn dus niet brandwerend. Bijvoorbeeld de 280 en 281 van vlieseline.
De laatste soort polyester vlies is Thermolam, deze is dun en dichtgeweven, heeft wel wat weg van vilt. Zo’n 3mm dik en geeft genoeg warmte voor een winterjas. Ook is thermolam 272 van vlieseline zeer geschikt als molton onder het strijkdek van de strijkplank én er worden schoudervullingen en snorren mee gemaakt. Maak je je eigen schoudervullingen en snorren dan zit je niet gebakken aan de standaard soorten, heb je bijvoorbeeld smalle schouders dan passen de schoudervullingen soms niet, en bij snorren is het vaak mooier om de mouwkop te volgen. Thermolam is een echt allrounder!
Plakbaar volumevlies van Vlieseline voor dikte en warmte
Er zijn drie, eigenlijk vier, soorten plakbaar volumevlies, de H640, H630 en HH650. De eerste twee zijn eenzijdig plakbaar de HH650 is dubbelzijdig plakbaar en wordt gebruikt om een gewatteerde stof te maken, ook voor tassen zijn deze soorten erg geschikt. De laatste plakbare fiberfill is X50, weer zo’n prachtig product van Vlieseline. Dit mooie dunne vlies geeft een beetje extra warmte en volume. Hij is opstrijkbaar en voorzien van ruitjes waardoor je gemakkelijk voering of stof watteert.
